The newly hatched eaglet, DC9, appears healthy. Its sibling, DC8, died less than 24 hours after hatching at the National Arboretum.

The First Lady, one of the National Arboretum’s beloved bald eagles, has been chased off by a younger female. Since then, the First Lady’s longtime squeeze and his hot new dish have been spotted nuzzling one another, sharing food and working on the nest.

D.C. has just two known nesting pairs of eagles, and no one is exactly sure where one of them has gone.

The two were seen on camera mating Saturday afternoon.

Will Liberty take him back?

Liberty hasn’t been seen at her nest above the D.C. police academy for three days now. The two eggs she had been struggling to incubate are no longer viable.
