Standoff on Capitol Hill Ends Peacefully
After almost 12 hours, a suspect who is wanted for assaulting a police officer surrendered peacefully.
Dean Sanchez shared a building with Jean E. Louis for years, and always knew he was a little off. But when police stormed his Mt. Pleasant building last month and shot Louis after a protracted stand-off, Sanchez couldn’t help but wonder if the deadly force was really necessary to deal with a man known to his neighbors as mentally distressed, though not violent.
The Metropolitan Police Department has identified the man that was shot and killed during a barricade situation in Mount Pleasant yesterday.
Police snipers. SWAT teams. Armored cars. Lockdowns at cafes. A man with filed-down screwdrivers. What exactly happened in Mount Pleasant yesterday?
UPDATE (5:45 p.m.): It appears as if the man who was causing all the fuss has been removed from the scene by EMS. Police are still investigating, but some of the emergency presence should be clearing from the area soon.
