Ben’s Chili Bowl is having a birthday party.
Councilmembers Phil Mendelson and Brianne Nadeau introduced ’emergency legislation’ to symbolically rename the 1200 block of U Street ‘Ben’s Chili Bowl Way.’
There’s a celebratory service in Maryland and parade in D.C. on Sunday.
“I have to make sure that this is something that inspires you,” the artist says.
Dave Chappelle, Dick Gregory, Jim Vance, and Eleanor Holmes Norton all saw their likenesses at the unveiling.
And no Bill Cosby.
It will formally be unveiled on June 2, but the new figures will start taking shape much sooner.
Cosby is still on the list of more than 50 nominees for the next mural.
“Everyone is welcome in Ben’s Chili Bowl,” says Virginia Ali.
