Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse
There’s so much going on across the Ist-a-Verse that it’s almost impossible to keep track these days. Fortunately, we do it so you don’t have to! Londonist took a walk through Oliver Twist’s London, thanks to a gorgeous map layer for Google Earth. They also caught up with modern-day fictional London, with the Fantastic Four and 28 Weeks Later. It was a week of insanity over at DCist. They started the week off with…

Weekly Music Agenda
MONDAY >> DCist Martin just saw Chris Robinson walking down M Street, so if you weren’t lucky enough to snag Black Crowes tickets for last night or tonight’s sold out shows at the 9:30 Club, you could hang out in Georgetown and hope to catch a glimpse. >> “Old Blind Dogs at the Institute of Musical Traditions” was just bulky enough to grab our attention through the mass of concert listings. Some further digging revealed…

Black Crowes at 9:30
Interestingly enough, while the Rolling Stones performed to a full house at the MCI Center last night, a band that owes much of its success to its ability to swipe some of the Rolling Stones’ swagger performed to a similarly full house over at the 9:30 Club. Last night The Black Crowes began the first of a two-day stint at the club, working their way through almost three hours of soulful Southern rock from six…

Weekly Music Agenda
The summer duldroms are definitely over and fall’s concert season is in full swing. It’s a busy week in D.C. music, so get yourself to a venue and enjoy yourself. The Hot Ticket
As the Hot Ticket turns into the pleasantly, autumnally cool ticket, there are certain hot items that will go without saying from now on, so don’t ask why we haven’t mentioned them. These are: 1) You should all be ashamed for not going to Nats games while there are a few left in this inaugural season, but we’re not going to mention this anymore. 2) There is, apparently, a professional football team in the area,…

Tom Petty at Merriweather
Thunderstorms swept across the region late yesterday afternoon, drenching the sold-out crowd that came to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at the Merriweather Post Pavillion, delaying the start of openers The Black Crowes, and stranding Petty himself on a plane in New York that arrived a mere 20 minutes before he was set to hit the stage. But that didn’t stop the show, much less put a damper on the spirit of the audience….

Weekly Music Agenda
(From DCist contributor Amanda Mattos) To play in D.C. this week, you apparently have to have played at Bonnaroo, been involved with a movie star, or started your career here. MONDAY: >>After a 2004 tour with the Blind Boys of Alabama, and countless appearances on mix CDs burned in dorm rooms, Ben Harper (at right) alights the 9:30 Club with friend and cohort, Tom Freund. The two recorded the album Pleasure & Pain together in…

Music Notes
Spring has sprung (well, sort of), and concerts in the D.C. area are in full bloom. We thought we had enough on our plate with the upcoming April and May line ups, but with some concert announcements in the past week, there’s even more than we expected. >> Bright Eyes sold out quickly the last time he came around, but apparently he can’t get enough of the District – dreamboat Conor Oberst (at right) is…
