Just a few hours after power was restored to parts of D.C. hit by a blackout yesterday, thousands of residents in those same neighborhoods are once again in the dark on a hot, sweltering day.

Wonder what the region’s power outages looked like from space? NASA has two images showing just how extensive the outages were after last week’s storm.

An electric cable serving the western end of the National Mall was damaged last night, causing a blackout at the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and other areas around the Reflecting Pool.
