The American Wine Consumer Coalition graded each state and the District of Columbia on consumer access to vino. D.C. was awarded an A+ based on four factors: “access to products,” “government control,” “blue laws” and “restaurant wine.”

There’s been recent talk of allowing liquor stores to sell spirits on Sundays. But at a hearing today, it was liquor store owners that came out against the idea.

Photo by lorigoldberg Montgomery County is considering allowing liquor sales on Sundays. This is an excellent idea, and one that the District of Columbia should consider as well. Antiquated ‘blue laws’ that prohibit the sale of hard liquor or other kinds of alcohol on Sundays continue to be prevalent across the United States, despite their origins in the Puritanical urge to force a religious standard on the community.
