Barnes & Noble Closing Union Station Store
Big-box bookstores will become an even rarer sight on December 31 when Barnes & Noble shutters its Union Station location, the company confirmed today.
Did D.C. just claim a small chunk of Arlington County? Sure, if you believe Google maps. And we do, so let’s welcome Arlington, D.C. to the city!

Former Borders to be Used as FotoWeekDC HQ
After bankruptcy claimed the Borders bookstore at 1801 K Street NW, many wondered who would take up the space. Well, the storefront at least has a temporary replacement — this year’s FotoWeekDC photography festival, which will occupy the space for a week, beginning November 4.

Locals Explain How D.C. Got Its Shape
The History Channel is currently featuring a rather fascinating series, How The States Got Their Shapes — and a recent episode covered the return of the District’s ten miles square to Virginia, or how “George Washington’s perfect diamond was torn apart.”
National book chain Borders declared bankruptcy today, and will close about 200 of its branches across the country. The Wall Street Journal has the complete list of Borders which will be closing, including two in the District of Columbia (1801 K Street NW and 5333 Wisconsin Avenue NW) and outlets in Kensington, Largo, Bowie and Woodbridge. Stores at Pentagon City, Baileys Crossroads, Silver Spring and Vienna will remain open.
