On December 23, Brickskeller closed, ending an era in beer drinking for Washingtonians. According to Young & Hungry, the space will reopen as Bier Baron on Wednesday, December 29 at 6 p.m. Owner Megan Merrifield notes that they will be offering a 500-beer selection with promises that – unlike with the former occupant – it will remain up-to-date. Pretzels and pierogis will grace the food menu, as well as desserts in collaboration with PS7’s pastry…

Name That Bar!
Here’s an interesting twist in the ongoing saga of the Brickskeller: WTOP’s Adam Tuss, who was the first to break the news that the bar would be renamed Rock Creek later this month, reports today that the name will change again. Turns out that there is already an establishment with that moniker!

Saturday Last Call Photo: December 11, 2010
Photo by sssdc1 Come this time next month, may very well change from ‘Brickskeller’ to ‘Rock Creek’. But would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? Yes, if that rose smelled like hops, came in a can and had an ABV of 10%. Either way, reports indicate that what lies behind this door will, for the time being, remain the same: glorious sudsy beer. If all plans continue forward, thanks sssdc1 for…
It looks as if the whispers about the selling of the Brickskeller have developed into a full-on roar. This morning, WTOP reporter Adam Tuss tweeted about a conversation he had with the new incoming owners of the bar — and Megan Merrifield and her husband, who own a few hotels around the city, divulged some of their ideas for what they plan on putting there in its place. According to Tuss, Merrifield will close on the property on December 23, and will reopen under a new name — Rock Creek — on December 26.

Looking Back on the Brickskeller
As we reported yesterday, it looks like the Brickskeller, once having the “World’s Largest Selection of Beer”, will be closing its doors very soon. Our friends over at J Street Beer say that a reliable source has the bar’s last day of business as December 18. Regardless, The Brick’s head has been on the chopping block for years now, and it seems almost imminent that this institution will be closing its doors for good very soon.

The Last Days of The Brickskeller

Back in October, rumors about the bar being up for sale really started gaining steam, although the owners of the bar were looking to…

Late Winter Beer Pulse
With the holidays and Obamauguration solidly behind us, it’s time to ditch the gimmicky and focus on the delicious. Winter is typically my favorite beer season of the year, but the overspiced and generic “winter” ales can tend to wear on a beer lover after only a few weeks. Now is the time when the good stuff really comes out. Birreria Paradiso Pizza Paradiso is running a Valentine’s Day dinner special (the entire restaurant,…
