In the District, candidates for elected office spend time and money in the hopes of winning a position that comes with a paycheck, sometimes a hefty one. But for one candidate in the 2012 races, it seems that money’s no expense — and for a position that’s fully unpaid.
The incumbents again raised the most money leading into the 2012 election year, with Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At Large) leading the charge with $105,000 raised and Councilmember Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) collecting $71,500 in his uncontested race to remain on the council beyond the two decades he’s served so far.
