Yeah…About That Whole Chain Bridge Reopening Thing
We had noted on Thursday that the Chain Bridge would have all three of its lanes open come Monday morning’s rush hour. But DDOT emailed this afternoon to tell us that rainy conditions have prevented crews from placing new pavement markings on the bridge which would have allowed for safe three-lane usage, although most of the other work is completed. If the weather stays dry, DDOT expects that the work will be finished by mid-week;…
Chain Bridge will be closed again this weekend, from 9 p.m. on Friday, May 21 through 6:30 a.m. on Monday, May 24. When it reopens Monday morning, the traffic pattern return to what it was before construction began: two lanes for inbound rush hour traffic in the morning, and two lanes for…

Weekend Chain Bridge Work Finally Back On

Work on the bridge was originally scheduled for late January and early February, but freezing temperatures, several snow storms, and last weekend’s lengthy rain storm prevented it from getting back on track. But the District Department of Transportation says that finally, weather permitting, the work is a go for this weekend….

Avoid Chain Bridge During Rush Hour
DDOT reports that there is a disabled furniture delivery truck blocking the right northbound lane of Chain Bridge as of about 5 p.m. Road Operations Patrol is on site to help facilitate traffic until the truck can be hauled away. They say traffic on Canal Road is backed up and additional traffic delays should be expected. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes such as Key, Theodore Roosevelt or Memorial bridges….

Chain Bridge Repair Work to Cause Delays
If you drive over the Chain Bridge on a regular basis, take note that delays are headed your way. Over the course of the entire project, one of the two inbound lanes will be closed. A single lane in each direction…
