Virginia legislators voted down a bill that would penalize drivers who wantonly throw open their doors into traffic, a practice cyclists refer to as being “doored.”

A bill that could make dooring a cyclist in Virginia an offense punishable by up to a $100 fine made it through a state senate committee yesterday.
