After the Democratic National Convention was moved inside for its final night, more than 55,000 people who thought they were attending President Obama’s acceptance speech were shut out, including many who had plans to travel from the D.C. area.

Thanks to a molasses-like security perimeter outside a special area designated for protests outside the Democratic National Convention, D.C. Mayor Vince Gray was unable to address a Charlotte crowd on the push for D.C. statehood.
As Washington’s political and media types converge on Charlotte, N.C. for the Democratic National Convention, a few have spotted a familiar sight in the blocks surrounding the Time Warner Cable Arena: officers from the Metropolitan Police Department.
Members of D.C.’s delegation to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte will continue fighting for voting rights and statehood this week.

Gray Heads to DNC, But Pays His Own Way
Mayor Vince Gray is traveling to Charlotte next week for the Democratic National Convention, but he’s paying his own way and using vacation days for the trip.
