Morning Roundup: Easter Egg Roll Edition

About as close as many of us will ever get to the inner-workings of the White House is the annual Easter Egg Roll, set to take place this coming Monday. The National Park Service has announced that they will start distributing tickets for the event on Friday night, with more tickets to be given out on Saturday and Monday mornings. From what we hear, they were planning on having a password-protected internet pre-sale, but…

Blog War Declared

In what could be the least newsworthy post of the day, DCist has learned from its frontline correspondents that what was once a simmering rivalry between two blogs has exploded into full fledged blog war. DC Bachelor, a popular if provocative blog on women and dating, today issued a no-nonsense fatwa against the Cleveland Park Men’s Club, a blog whose content similarly covers dating and women but tends more towards aristocratic sophistication. The DC Bachelor,…

The Ever-Vacillating Kelly Ann Collins

Thanks to the distinguished gentlemen at the Cleveland Park Men’s Club, we learn that the once-active-turned-defunct-turned-potentially-active Washington Socialites blog is back up and running. Oh Kelly Ann, how you torment us so. What has troubled you? Blogger burn-out? It happens to all of us. Or is this some convoluted and ingenious public relations scheme for you to do a double back flip, oust Liz Smith from Page 6 and set up shop as queen…

Socialites Sign Off

Just a scant 11 days after some great press, it looks like Kelly Ann Collins has shut down the Washington Socialites. No specific reason is given; Kelly Ann states that she’s shut down her blog “to free myself up for life’s next adventure.” The Washington Socialites blog created both positive and negative buzz on the blogosphere and beyond. It landed Kelly Ann and former associate Windy on Z104’s Matthew Blades Program but also brought on…

D.C. Blogs In the Express

The rapidly developing D.C. blogosphere was the subject of a story in today’s Express, who profiled Kelly Ann Collins in an article on page 32 for their Outlook page. If you missed it, today’s entire Express (PDF) is available for download from their website. In addition to Kelly Ann Collins’ Washington Socialites, the article mentions DCist (or our Cinco de Mayo party at least), the Cleveland Park Men’s Club, DC SOB (no URL), and the…

Uptown Theatre Gets First ‘Sith’ Campers

They’re here, and they’re only going to grow in numbers. Yes, 13 days before the release of the final installment of the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, rabid fans are lining up in Cleveland Park outside the Uptown Theatre to claim prime spots for the May 19 premiere at the cherished movie palace. The W.Times interviewed a man who didn’t want to be identified, so the paper calls him Obi-Wan Doe: Next to Obi-Wan Doe is…

Demanding mp3s, Thieves Stab Man in Cleveland Park

On its front page today, the Post writes about the increase of iPod thefts from apartments and cars and how it can be a real bummer for one’s playlist to be instantly gone. We can surely understand this trauma. But nowhere in the article was there word of what happens when an iPod is forcibly taken from one’s person. Unless we’re missing something (Update, we did miss something, see comments), the Post seemed to…

Sexual Politics in Cleveland Park

A group of friends who live in Cleveland Park recently decided to take their men’s club online and into the blogosphere, launching the Cleveland Park Men’s Club, where the men blog behind a variety of pseudonyms: from “The Chef” and “The Dean” to “Capo.” (Two are pictured here in this early post.) In a post titled “Where have all the cowboys gone?” they lay out their raison d’être: So keep bemoaning the loss of “real…
