Nats Update: Columbus Cavalry

Anyone who watched the Nats get smacked around in Florida this weekend saw the club nearly swept, saved only by Friday night’s endless string of baserunners. The team’s all-too-familiar weaknesses were exposed once again in the form of poor starting pitching, with Bergmann, Chico and Simontacchi surrendering 18 earned runs in 14.2 IP between them. Early deficits on Saturday and Sunday were exacerbated by the team’s inability to drive in runs, highlighted by the 9-0…

Wizards Face Tough Stretch

What was once an entertaining season for the Washington Wizards has quickly gone down the proverbial drain so fast most people are afraid to ask “What’s next?” In the last 12 days, the team has lost Caron Butler and Gilbert Arenas for the season, lost the third seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, lost the Southeast Division crown to the Miami Heat and also lost six in a row, with four of those…

Gilbert’s Swag Is Still Phenomenal

Can it get any better for Gilbert Arenas right now? The Wiz may have lost at Toronto yesterday, but if you’ve been paying attention, that was almost inevitable after the week Gilbert (and the team) just had. Gilbert’s Swag, Game Winner Sink Milwaukee

When the NBA schedule was released before the start of the season, I doubt many people circled the four games pitting Washington against Milwaukee. Too bad, because they are missing one of the NBA’s best budding rivalries. These two teams, each led by a former second round pick turned All Star, have played some incredibly exciting games in the last two years. Last night’s 108-105 Wizards win was more of the same. Gilbert Arenas,…

Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse

The weeks starts out right when a sucker punch on the field lands Chicagoist in the middle of a Sox/Cubs throwdown and the fists continue to fly in the comments. Despite suburban resident Ms. Pinney’s best little try no books will be banned anytime soon and the El is really really gross. Houstonist is there to start compiling the punditry when when the guilty, guilty Enron verdict comes down. This guy seems to be able…

Wizards Win Home Opener, Stay Undefeated

DCist was lucky enough to get Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Brendan Haywood on our NBA fantasy team this year and so far all three are making us look like a regular Ernie Grunfeld. On Saturday night Arenas and Jamison combined for 53 points and 16 rebounds while Haywood pulled down 10 rebounds and added four blocked shots and the Wizards won their home opener 87-79 over the Orlando Magic. But the team’s offense…
