It’s a Little Late to Say Sorry, Isn’t It?
For all the apologizing going around, it seems clear that even the Councilmembers that cast the votes to move Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) off the Transportation and Public Works Committee aren’t so sure of themselves.
Despite public outrage with the reasoning, Council Chair Kwame Brown’s decision to reassign Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) off the Council’s Committee and Public Works and Transportation passed by a 12-1 vote this afternoon. Wells was the lone objector.
In the wake of this morning’s news that D.C. Council Chair Kwame Brown plans to strip Councilmember Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) of his chairmanship of the Committee on Public Works and Transportation, questions are flying as to the wisdom of the move, the impact it may have and if Brown even has the votes to pull it off.

What’s Next For Harry Thomas, Jr.?
The reaction to the lawsuit filed by the District against Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas, Jr. has been swift and damning — of course, that’s what will happen when you show up to a press conference in the very car the Attorney General claims you improperly spent nearly $60,000 in city money on.
Thanks to one intrepid tweeting Councilmember, we know now who the chairs will be for committees under Kwame Brown’s Chairmanship of the Council come 2011. Previously, Brown — who had the final say on the assignments — had said that he would keep the Committee on Education under his purview in the Committee of the Whole, much like his predecessor, Vince Gray. The rest of the assignments? Drumroll, please.

Williams, who still needs to be approved by the entire council, had been thought to be underqualified for the job, but council members were apparently “swayed by Williams’s enthusiasm and the overwhelming support she drew at…

Graham Gives Up Taxi Oversight
Photo by Samer Farha Ward 1 D.C. Council member Jim Graham is relinquishing his lead role in oversight of the city’s taxicab industry, despite an earlier determination from Council Chair Vincent Gray that Graham should keep taxis in his portfolio as chairman of the public works and transportation committee. Graham has asked Gray to transfer taxicab oversight powers to the Committee of the Whole. In a letter to Gray today, Graham wrote, “Though I…
