VRE to Launch Express Route from Fredericksburg

Via the Examiner, it looks like Virginia Railway Express will start offering a weekday a.m. express train from Fredericksburg to Union Station in July. The faster route would save commuters about 20 minutes each way. VRE is still developing plans to make several service changes once its new storage track at L’Enfant Plaza is operational. Fares Keep Going Up on VRE

But for the thousands of Virginia commuters who count on it to get them to work every day, their ride is going to might get a bit more expensive. For the fifth consecutive year time in recent years, VRE is hiking might hike fares to…

Tourists and Public Transit

The NY Times’ travel section had a letter to the editor encouraging tourists to use public transportation. Try riding a local or express bus, van, ferry, jitney, light rail, monorail, subway or commuter rail line. Many systems provide daily or weekly discounted fun passes geared to out-of-town tourists. In most cases, these transportation systems are financed with your tax dollars. Why not use these investments and reap the benefits? You’ll be supporting a cleaner environment…
