Metro’s Computers Are Having a Bad Thursday

The problem is also affecting Metro’s communication systems, so Metro Transit Police are asking customers in trouble to call 911 if they need assistance. Hopefully, they get reception.

Watson Clobbers Congressmen, World Remains Doomed

Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter, the most successful people to ever be dressed down by Alex Trebek on syndicated television, sure got their butts whupped by Watson, the IBM creation that has most of America withering in fear that the reign of Skynet is looming. Last night, Representatives Rush Holt (D-NJ), Jared Polis (D-CO), Jim Himes (D-CT), Nan Hayworth (R-NY), and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) all had their chance to take on the supercomputer in a few rounds of the popular game show — and Holt actually came out on top. Once. In a series of a few rounds. None of the other legislators even came close.

Massive Comcast Internet Outage Plagues D.C., East Coast

Comcast’s internet service went down on Sunday evening. (Of course, not that you’d have known it by looking at the company’s “Outage Check” website at any point last night.) Twitter blew up with complaints about the outage, and the service disruption is affecting a large portion of the East Coast.

On The Seventh Day, You Still Couldn’t Get A License In Virginia

The long-running computer glitch which has ground operations at the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to a halt will get fixed — but not until Wednesday at the earliest, so Virginians will need to wait yet another day to get a new license or identification card. Personally, I Prefer Asteroids

What you’re looking at above is a video of “what a train controller sees when a train is operating through a circuit that’s been turned off for maintenance,” according to WTOP. Now, perhaps it’s just me, but: isn’t it indicative of the current state of Metro that their train monitoring system is apparently running off an old Atari 2600? Can WMATA operators get Pitfall on that thing after the system closes for the night?
