Morning Roundup: Duck, Duck … Oops Edition
Friday has arrived at last, Washington. Despite the federal holiday on Monday, it’s been a rather long week for many of us – though of course, we couldn’t hold a candle to the week that D.C. CFO Natwar Gandhi has had. The Post writes about yesterday’s lengthy D.C. Council hearing into the tax office scandal, which lasted until 9 p.m. and where it was apparently revealed late in the evening that authorities are investigating the…

Tonight, it’s the Rock and Roll Edition of DC’s premiere reading series, featuring John Sellers reading from his new book (Perfect From Now On: How Indie Rock Saved My Life), Glenn Dixon discussing the secret porn of Christian rock, artist Mike Lowery emitting delightful odors, and Mazmanian himself, who’ll give rock gestures the Francois Delsarte…

Revolution Records Closing, Hoping to Move
Another local record store is closing, hopefully temporarily, as Revolution Records in Van Ness (or North Cleveland Park) will shut its doors on September 3rd. A nice little spot with good selection and neat listening rooms, we’re sad to see it go. However, the plan is that the store will not join DCCD in being gone forever, as co-owner Nayan Bhula said they’re looking for a new location in or near the District. Bhula,…

Rooftop Roundup: Cocktails Without the Crowd
What better way to enjoy the season than by heading to a rooftop bar for a drink, a bite to eat, and a late afternoon bask in the sun? Savor it while you can, since it’s likely that a month from now, heat and humidity may prompt some metro commuters to carry work clothes to the office rather than sweat through a dress shirt. Though you may already have a table with your name on…

Emergency Doughnuts Now!
Free food is always tastier than paid-for food. And free doughnuts are perhaps the tastiest thing of all. As has been mentioned elsewhere, Krispy Kreme is celebrating National Doughnut Day today by doling out free doughnuts to all comers. According to the one of the commenters over at Wonkette, a long line has formed outside the Krispy Kreme branch on Dupont Circle, rivaling the line that formed outside Dupont Circle’s Ben and Jerry’s location when…

For anyone who’s either been hiding under a rock this past year or who hasn’t yet experienced the pleasure of being clouted in the forehead with a ball peen hammer by a member of the Free Republic, this reading is a…

D.C. Politics Roundup: A Little Bit of This And That
Voting Rights Signs Popping Up: The movement to grant District residents full voting rights became just a little more obvious in recent days. DC Vote announced on Tuesday that a 10 foot by 20 foot banner bearing the phrases “Go Nats!” and “Taxation Without Representation” was permanently affixed to the western side of RFK Stadium in recent weeks. Similarly, a 12 foot by 24 foot billboard, pictured above, was placed atop the American City…
