Infections caused by the Delta variant of the coronavirus likely make up about 31.4% of the infections in the Mid-Atlantic region, according to estimates from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.

By increasing its screening of COVID-19 variants, Maryland officials say they will get a better sense of how widespread they are.

The state has already reported cases of the U.K. and South Africa variants.
