The omnibus bill, called “Secure DC,” is expected to pass its second and final vote before the D.C. Council in early March.
The bill would also relax education requirements for police officers and expand a home loan assistance program for first responders.
Police officers will use the “hub” like another office – and officials say it will also include staff from human services and behavioral health agencies.
The massive bill, which stiffens penalties for gun and retail theft and reduces the scope of some police reforms, has undergone several changes since it was introduced in January. It must pass one more vote before being sent to the mayor for signature.
