Free MGMT, Wale & Dan Deacon Shows in D.C. This Weekend

Wale will perform in a free show this weekend sponsored by Kia Motors. Photo by Francis Chung Something called the “Soul Collective Tour,” presented by Kia, is coming to D.C. this weekend. Click Click: Dan Deacon @ Hirshhorn After Hours

“Make it epic!” Dan Deacon’s roadie was yelling in my ear as he held up a stack of stage monitors, working to keep the speakers upright despite the mass of bodies pummeling into them. He wanted me to take a shot of Deacon’s so-called Trippy Green Skull — an object that often stands in for the man himself at his absurdly egalitarian shows, due to the fact that it’s just about the only thing than…

Usually called an “absurdist composer” rather than solo electronic musician, he packs a crazy sense of humor, samples and loops into a building frenzy on tracks like “Crystal Cat,” the 11 minute “Wham City,” and “Snake Mistakes.” In concert, Deacon sets…
