Issa Introduces Bill That Would Grant D.C. Budget Autonomy if Congress Can’t Get Its Act Together
Budget autonomy for the District could come sooner, contingent on Congress bungling its own budgetary responsibilities.
Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton says her colleagues in the House of Representatives are taking the referendum claiming budget autonomy for the District.
Perhaps the most shocking thing about the vote on the ballot referendum amending the District’s Home Rule Charter to claim budget autonomy is that 12.28 percent of people actually voted against it.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is said to be considering including D.C. budget autonomy language in a bill that could come up as soon as next month.
In a pleasant change for D.C., city issues will be dealt with by the full House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, chaired by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).
A Republican member of Congress has asked that a study be conducted on whether or changes should be made to the 1910 law that has stopped buildings in the city from going above certain heights.
