The electronic version would be an additional option and would be accepted by police, businesses, and the TSA just like the plastic versions. 

Appointments won’t be offered after July 17, 2021.

A D.C. DMV spokesperson says they have “notified many federal and state agencies as well as businesses about the new temporary driver license. Additionally, customers are encouraged to keep their hole-punched ID and show as needed with the temporary license.”

The bill will allow the DMV to issue a driver’s license, learner’s permit, or identification card to undocumented D.C. residents.

The Council is backing away from a plan to have the licenses look the same as all others. Instead, a two-tier system will be created, where undocumented immigrants’ licenses will read “not valid for official federal purposes.”

A representative from the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles said that no money from sale of the plates will go to the organization that sponsored them.
