D.C. GOP, Fielding Three Candidates In November, Will Have Sean Spicer Headlining Fundraiser
Republicans in the District are fielding candidates for delegate to the House of Representatives, as well as the Ward 6 and At-large D.C. Council races.
DC Vote Executive Director Ilir Zherka just passed the 10-year mark as the organization’s executive director, so maybe this type of stuff shouldn’t surprise him anymore. But it does, and today he called out Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) for his “stunning hypocrisy” in introducing a set of amendments that would dictate D.C. policy on guns, abortions and union labor.
Earlier this week, we reported that the Office of Campaign Finance’s interpretation of laws regarding donations to partisan organizations by Councilmembers clashed with a complaint made by the D.C. GOP, which argued such donations were against regulations. But that doesn’t mean that OCF won’t be proceeding with an investigation.
Last week, the D.C. GOP filed a complaint with the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance claiming that 10 of the 13 members of the D.C. Council had broken city regulations by steering money from their Constituent Service Funds to partisan organizations. It looks like some of the accused may be off the hook, though.
It’s not easy being a Republican in the District. This is one of the country’s most heavily Democratic cities, and even with two seats on the D.C. Council set aside for minority parties, Republicans don’t currently have a presence in the city’s legislature. D.C. Republicans Keep Hounding Graham
Even though a new Washington Post report today suggests D.C. Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) may not actually be a target of the corruption investigation that ensnared his chief of staff, the D.C.
