Pearlstein to Inviting Streetscapes: Drop Dead!
You have to give Steven Pearlstein credit. It’s easy to be wrong about stuff: to call Tysons Corner a choice address, to fault Reston for not having bums and graffiti, or to assert that building churches is a better use of public money than constructing a tunnel for the Orange Line extension. Anyone can pen those garden variety inanities. It takes balls to compare Route 7 to Midtown Manhattan. That’s some grade A crazy; we’re…

Some Kind of Monster At Rorschach
Editorial Disclosure: DCist Jason Linkins has a supporting role in this production Quite a few interpretations of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein have been gracing the D.C. stages lately. Round House Silver Spring has a take, and we were impressed with the lyrical, atmospheric vibe that Synetic Theatre’s production captured in September. Weekly Music Agenda
MONDAY >> Everyone, we’re stumped. We’ve been scratching our heads for weeks now, trying to figure out why three bands with as much buzz following them around as Cold War Kids, Midlake, and Sound Team (pictured) would be playing the Black Cat’s back stage, especially when nothing else is booked upstairs. Out and About: Weekend Picks
FRIDAY: Canadian supergroup Stars wowed Death Cab for Cutie fans when they opened their show last year at 9:30 Club, and now they return as headliners to set the Black Cat stage on fire. Of course, this concert has been sold out for ages, and the desperation for tickets on Craigslist is palpable. We’ll see you fellow lucky bastards in what will no doubt be a breathtakingly long will-call line. For the rest of you,…

Music Tidbits
It’s been a…weird week for D.C. music lovers. Fur flew over the dos and don’ts of ticket sale announcements. Strange things were afoot with venue booking. We all got twitterpated about Unbuckled. Before we move on to telling you about some things to look forward to, may we just say how much awesome Nethers brought to the Black Cat’s back stage last night? This is a truly great band, D.C. or otherwise. They’ve got well…
