The Virgin Festival in a Nutshell

Day 1 was hot. Day 2 was dusty. And there were enough Amy-Winehouse-inspired hairdos to sink a ship. Our feet hurt, our foreheads are burnt to a crisp, we’ve got indentations on our noses from wearing sunglasses so much, a serious nap is in order and it’s going to take more than one shower to fully recuperate, but the second annual Virgin Festival delivered on its promises of good bands, ecological responsibility, copious amenities…

Go Home Already: What Goes Around

>> Tragedy strikes the best little bar in Arlington! According to a MySpace bulletin, some miscreant has run off with Galaxy Hut’s kareoke equipment, effectively squashing DCist Amanda’s favorite way to spend a Thursday night. Why would someone do such a thing? Especially since wherever they take it is sure to have an inferior beer selection to the equipment’s original home. Do your part and go spend some money at G Hut so they can…

Krasinski, who met Gibbard on the set of the upcoming film adaptation of David Foster Wallace’s Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, reportedly got a bit drunk, came on the stage and provided a little witty musical banter…

Let’s Be Graphic

There’s no doubt Naomi Klein would shake her head in disgust were she to stumble upon this. Earlier on ye olde DCist staff email list, DCist Amanda related a conversation she had with friends recently about how much they love it when a truck bearing the Metropolitan Meat Seafood & Poultry logo rolls by, for the sole reason that they have such an adorable logo. It’s just so friendly, and optimistic, the way the lobster…

Craigslist, Saving Lost Puppies One at a Time

For all our snark here at DCist, you have to know we’re big fans of the Internet. So on this gray and gloomy day, we thought we’d bring you a short but sweet tale of the power of the Internet to save puppies. Because, really, what else is it good for if it can’t save helpless, adorable animals? Nothing, that’s what. Wednesday night, a friend of DCist Amanda’s was driving along in Falls Church when…
