A massive crowd lining both sides of First Street NE erupted into cheers, applause, and hugging when the U.S. Supreme Court issued its rulings in two landmark cases that advance the cause of same-sex marriage.

Regardless of the outcome, the Washington National Cathedral will hold a prayer service tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the city’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

People are lining up outside the U.S. Supreme Court in hopes of getting a ticket to watch oral arguments in this week’s landmark same-sex marriage cases.

Legal observers and activists eager to hear if the U.S. Supreme Court will be taking up any same-sex marriage cases in its upcoming term will have to wait a few more days.
