Early Monday morning, D.C. police tackled protesters and deployed chemical irritants to disperse people gathered downtown near Black Lives Matter Plaza.

“If you are a white person in Bethesda, you are experiencing policing much differently than a Black person in Briggs Chaney.”

“Everything that is done that is unpopular in this country is done quietly.”

The group marched from the African American History Museum to Freedom Plaza, calling for police reform and accountability from D.C. lawmakers.

The cuts were partly curtailed by contractual pay raises for police officers, according to judiciary committee chair Charles Allen.
