U.S. House Votes To Overturn D.C. Police Reforms
The future of the House’s disapproval resolution is uncertain, as President Biden has vowed to veto the measure.
Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton says she’s concerned the online pass requirement may be “limiting access or deterring visits to the National Zoo.”
Seven of the 13 members on the D.C. Council signed a letter insisting the dilapidated 190-acre site be redeveloped for more housing, public green spaces and new retail.
“I have not seen a threat like this since I became a member of Congress,” says D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton.
Residents have sought for years to remove the name of Francis G. Newlands from the Chevy Chase park.
Despite passing the House, the provision that would give D.C.’s mayor control over the National Guard didn’t make it into the final version of Congress’ defense bill.
Just before the Juneteenth holiday, D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced the bill to commemorate them.
