Immigrant Rights Supporters March To Mary Cheh’s House In Support Of Equal Driver’s Licenses
Unfortunately, Cheh wasn’t home. But they sang some nice songs for her neighbors.
The Council is backing away from a plan to have the licenses look the same as all others. Instead, a two-tier system will be created, where undocumented immigrants’ licenses will read “not valid for official federal purposes.”

Prince William County Leaders Angry After Immigration Officials Cancel Controversial Police Cooperation Program
Leaders in Prince William County are upset that the federal government has decided to discontinue a program that allowed local police officers to check the immigration status of those suspected of being in the country illegally.
Last week, we highlighted a story about a group of people who wanted to open a farmers’ market in the parking lot of the Naylor Road Metro station, only to be turned down by WMATA because of a rule restricting the sale of food and drink on Metro property. Let’s Just Erect A Dome With A Big Screen Already
Was the traffic chaos that developed during January’s big snowstorm a sign that the Washington region is ill-prepared to keep its citizens informed in the event of a terrorist attack? Maybe! At least, that was the conclusion reached by several local leaders yesterday during a Department of Homeland Security briefing.
As the region’s largest international airport, it’s no surprise when travelers are caught trying to smuggle drugs in and out of Dulles International Airport in creative ways. (People trying to get cocaine past inspectors inside dried soup packets and fully-cooked chickens come to mind.) But there are still those who attempt to get around the watchdogs via more conventional methods.
Perhaps it was foolhardy to think that the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), which handles the Federal portion of the District’s Comprehensive Plan, was actually interested in developing the former St. Elizabeth’s site in Congress Heights into anything but a cathedral to commuting, traffic and Homeland Security.
