Disturbing Video of Fatal Metrobus Accident

Commenter Lionel M. Hutz linked to a video yesterday in our post about the 1-year jail sentence handed down to the former Metrobus driver who struck and killed two women in February. Rusty over at why.i.hate.dc also linked to it this morning, and since then, the DCist Staff email list has been filled with a lot of phrases like “Wow”, “Holy crap!” and “That’s the single most horrific piece of video I’ve seen in a…

Judge Gives D.C. Madam New Lawyer

‘D.C. Madam’ Deborah Jeane Palfrey, who communicated with employees as ‘Miz Julia’, appeared in court today, where the judge granted her request for new counsel. Her civil attorney appealed to the Supreme Court last week, saying she was given inadequate criminal representation. U.S. District Court Judge Gladys Kessler ruled Monday that Palfrey will get a new court-appointed public defender, but the judge denied Palfrey’s request for a $150,000 budget to hire New York lawyer…

Morning Roundup: Our Eyes Are Still Burning Edition

It’s going to be one of those days we fear, Washington. Let’s just say some of us may have been up late last night watching the first Democratic presidential debate, others of us might have had a few too many while wandering the massive artDC fair opening, and overall we’re getting a sluggish start this morning. Not to mention that that thunderstorm is finally here, it’s Friday, and so far it’s shaping up to be…

Morning Roundup: Snow Justice

We gotta say, Mother Nature is a moody lady. She gives us Saturday’s near-perfect conditions to watch the Idiotarod in all it’s idiotic glory, then follows up with Sunday’s frigid bluster. This week, she’s gonna drop the winter hammer again, with highs in the thirties and – dare I say – the possibility of snow. Stay tuned to DCist to see if the forecast warrants scaring up the ol’ Snowpacalypse Warning System. Alleged Cocaine Dealers…
