It’s hot and sweltering and miserable out there today, hardly the kind of setting in which one yearns to drink outside. But loyalists of Arlington’s old favorite, Bardo Rodeo—which later reincarnated as Dr. Dremo’s—have a reason to brave the heat this evening.
The plan to revive the old Arlington brewery and restaurant Bardo has cleared a major regulatory hurdle with the approval of its request for a D.C. liquor license.

The Dremo Never Dies
Did somebody call for a doctor? Rumblings are afoot that Dr. Dremo’s — the much-loved home of donut beer, the Night of 101 Elvises and off-the-wall decor — is again in the market for a new Arlington location.

Don’t Dremo It’s Over
We’ve been closely following the ongoing saga of the search for a suitable location for the reincarnated Dr. Dremo’s in Arlington. But it looks like that search has hit another snag. According to an e-mail sent today by owner Andrew Stewart, negotiations for the most recent location have fallen through and another party has leased the spot. Stewart notes that he is still continuing the search for a new location, and we hope that…

Dr. Dremo’s New Location Up in the Air
We reported a few months back that Andrew Stewart, owner of erstwhile Arlington bar Dr. Dremo’s, was close to securing a new location. But in an e-mail to investors today, Stewart said the location he’d had in mind had fallen through due to the amount of buildout and investment that would be required to get the building up to code. The estimated cost of replacing waste and water lines was over $50K, according to Stewart….

New Dremo’s Gaining Momentum
Current site of the new Dr. Dremo’s in Arlington, pre-buildout, with owner Andrew Stewart in the foreground. Photo by Eddie Kim. It’s looking good for a reincarnated Dr. Dremo’s in Arlington, as owner Andrew Stewart has managed to drum up support from several investors. (Stewart is still looking for additional investors, and can be contacted at newdremos [at] gmail [dot] com.) The new location is a former auto shop located near North 10th St….

More on Dr. Dremo’s Potential Return
On Saturday we posted about Dr. Dremo’s, the much-beloved and missed Arlington bar that closed in January 2008 — they were looking for investors for a potential new location in Clarendon. Since then, a few others folks picked up on the story: you can read interviews with owner Andrew Stewart by blogger Tom Cizauskas and our own Missy Frederick in the Washington Biz Journal. Stewart, whose father Bill opened Dremo’s predecessor Bardo’s, says he’s…

Dr. Dremo’s Demolition Begins
Arlington institution Dr. Dremo’s closed its doors and auctioned off everything that wasn’t nailed down back in January, but the building and its neighbors (the old Taco Bell, etc.) have stood empty since then, awaiting demolition to make way for a new condo development. Well George Whelan sent in these photos showing that demolition has finally begun. Most of the surrounding buildings are being taken down today, and one construction worker said he had been…

Dr. Dremo’s: Going, going, gone?
In what was probably the last time Dr. Dremo’s Taphouse in Arlington would be open to the public, close to 100 spectators, friends and former patrons of Dr. Dremo’s Taphouse gathered around the indoor bar last night to give their last tributes to the staff and possibly take home a memento by which to remember the D.C.-area fixture. While a few came in search of a deal on a pool table, kitchen appliance, or…

The Weekly Feed: Everything Must Go Edition
As of yet, we haven’t heard of any last minute reprieves for Dr. Dremo’s, which plans to close its doors in the early hours Sunday morning. So come 2 a.m, you’re done downing your last ale in your favorite chair or stool next to that weird kitschy decoration you’ve always liked. But you can come back one last time, on Monday night at 7 p.m., for a chance to take your own piece of Dr….
