But the actual number of scooters in the District would still see an increase.

The company’s scooters have been off the streets in D.C., Arlington, and Alexandria since mid-June, when a bin full of lithium batteries caught fire in Skip’s downtown warehouse.

And D.C. didn’t know about it until we asked.

It’s the third such warehouse fire, and the second fire involving Skip scooters in recent weeks.

The company also suspended service in San Francisco, the only other city it operates in, “out of an abundance of caution.”
