D.C. Council Passes Bill Lowering Barriers To Employment For Residents With Criminal Records
The new legislation bars licensing boards from considering criminal records unless charges “directly relate” to an occupation, among other regulatory reforms.
The measure, which was opposed by the restaurant industry, requires some hospitality employers to send job offers to laid-off workers as their positions reopen.
A report by Project: Time Off shows that 64 percent of D.C. workers collectively have more than 17 million paid days from work.

As with so much else in the nation’s capital, the gains since the recession ended haven’t been spread equally.
According to a video released by the big box retailer, 11,000 applications came in during the first week of hiring, with 3,000 coming in on the first day alone.
