On Friday, we took a quick peek at Peregrine Espresso’s new digs at 1718 14th Street NW — by far, the biggest question we got was “so, when will the place be open?” Soon, caffeine freaks!

Since the tea taxes of the 18th century, America has always been a country of coffee drinkers. The ubiquity of Starbucks brought about the rise of “gourmet” coffee, and recently, many people have been fixated on single origin, fair trade beans that are brewed in the latest multi-thousand dollar machine or fancy gizmo from Japan. But in the end, it’s not the technology that makes the coffee. It’s careful attention to the beans used, and how they’re roasted.

The Post finally picked up on the Murky Coffee brouhaha this morning, and it appears it’s been a topic of conversation at other locally owned coffee shops around town. We snapped this photo at Big Bear Cafe in Bloomingdale today. Thanks to Catherine Andrews for the tip….
