Morning Roundup: Those Crazy Teens Edition

What’s with teens these days? Leave it to WJLA to do some undercover reporting to find out. In a story posted on the website, the station’s probing news team embedded itself with teens in Maryland to find out exactly what makes them tick, what secrets they posses, and what they do on their free time. Not to say that the results are somewhat alarmist, but, oh hell, that’s exactly what they are. Read for yourself:…

End of the Road

The Nationals ended their final road trip of the season in fine fashion, lighting up the scoreboard on consecutive nights and earning a three game sweep against the fading Florida Marlins. Last night’s 11-7 win was highlighted by a seven run, seven hit 4th inning that guaranteed an easy road to victory despite a not-so-good performance from Esteban Loaiza (6IP, 10H, 6R, 1BB, 1HR), and also guaranteed that the Nats can finish no worse…

Still Standing

Well, they just won’t go away, will they now? In winning their last two straight against the Mets, your Washington Nationals have made up a little ground in the Wild Card standings. Hector Carrasco took the baton from an ailing John Patterson on Tuesday night, coming through with four solid innings and setting the tone for a 4-2 win (Rauch, Eischen, Majewski, and Cordero combined for five scoreless innings). Last night, Esteban Loaiza gave most…

Missed Opportunity

The Nationals missed an opportunity to overtake the Astros in the wild card chase, dropping a tough 4-3 decision against the Phillies last night. Esteban Loaiza coughed up four earned runs on 10 hits and a walk in 5.2 innings. Bright spots for the Nats included Vinny Castilla’s 3rd inning homerun, and Luis Ayala, Joey Eischen, and Gary Majewski combining for 2+ innings of scoreless, hitless relief. The Nats managed to cut the Phillies’…

Home Cooked

(Entry written by DCist contributor Chris Kelly) The Nationals saw their 12 game home winning streak come to an end yesterday at RFK as a result of a 9-5 roasting at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays. Orlando Hudson of the Jays broke a 5-5 tie in the 8th with a two-run home run off of Luis Ayala. Sunny Kim gave up two more in the 9th to put the game out of reach….

Let the Good Times Roll

(Editor’s Note: DCist would like to welcome Chris Kelly to our Sports staff. He will be assisting in our coverage of the Nationals with a weekly column each Monday.) Call ’em “The Comeback Kids”, “The One-Run Wonders”, “The Cardiac Kids”; doesn’t matter. Call ’em whatever you want, but your first place Washington Nationals extended their 10-game winning streak yesterday with yet another 1-run victory (8 out of their last 13 wins have been by 1…

The End of the Beginning

This DCist finally got to see a baseball game at RFK yesterday afternoon when Nationals met Atlanta for the final game of their first-ever homestand. Having lucked into six tickets — a trio of 100-level seats just above first base and a trio of 300-level seats not far away — this DCist and two co-workers knew what we had to do: scalp the 300-levels for beer money. And so we did, making it into the…

Rumor Scout

After what seemed like days without any news from the world of D.C. baseball, when DCist was last seen opining that the Nats were done trading, several trade/acquisition rumors have cropped up and been deemed worthy of coverage by the Post and MLB.com. So DCist will play along: Right-handed pitcher Esteban Loaiza has caught GM Jim Bowden’s eye, and for reasons mostly unknown to people not named Jim Bowden. The speculation has caused a good…
