The change follows a a federal judge’s ruling earlier this week that deemed the CDC’s masking requirements on public transportation unlawful. WMATA and other local transit systems have also eliminated masking requirements.

After Many Schools In The D.C. Region Drop Mask Requirements, A Mix Of Emotions From Families
Some families have welcomed the decision to lift masking requirements, others are struggling to embrace the change.
Beginning next week, the Museum of Natural History and the National Zoo will also open up for visitors 7 days per week.
Under the new law, decisions to mask students in schools will be up to parents, not school districts.
It marks a shift from guidance the state issued last month, which recommended masking indoors at some schools.
Not all restaurants followed in lock-step with D.C.’s new order allowing for full capacity dining and maskless customers.
