According to data from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, there are nearly two dozen cases of COVID-19 inside the Caroline Detention Facility.

According to the letter, there are now only 12 individuals being held at the Farmville Detention Center.

The Farmville detention center saw a massive coronavirus outbreak and one death this summer, and now the Caroline County center has seen its cases spike in the past two weeks.

The inspection report finds Farmville staff failed to respond to a severe COVID-19 outbreak and left detainees without proper medical care as the virus spread.

The ruling follows a lawsuit filed against ICE on behalf of four Farmville detainees.

“There’s a lot of people that are scared for their lives and are saying they can’t stand up,” says Adina Appelbaum, an attorney with CAIR Coalition. “They can’t eat. They’re having trouble breathing. People are passing out on the floor. People are unable to stand up for count.”
