Metro Opens Voting To Name Farragut “Virtual” Tunnel
WMATA announced this morning that they’ve whittled down the crowd-sourced effort to rename the “pedestrian tunnel” to five possible names: “Free Transfer,” “Surface Transfer,” “Farragut Connect,” “Farragut Exchange” and “Farragut Crossing”.
This afternoon, WMATA General Manager/CEO Richard Sarles addressed his agency’s Board of Directors and announced specifics on several long-awaited initiatives, touting the transit agency’s “change in culture.”

Farragut North’s Stairs: Back To An Escalator…Soon?
UPDATE: Well, that sure was quick — Ben Giles, who reported out the Examiner story cited in this post, tweeted this morning that the mezzanine/platform escalator on the K Street side of the Farragut North station has reopened. Huzzah!

Body Found on Tracks at Farragut North
According to DCFireEMS and Metro’s Twitter feeds there was a body found on the tracks at Farragut North station. DCFireEMS’s twitter feed reports that there is “no rescue – PDOA – injuries incompatible with life” meaning the person is dead (PDOA stands for pronounced dead on arrival). Metro Operator Fired Over Farragut North Derailment
The Metrorail operator who was involved in the pocket track derailment at the Farragut North station on Feb. 12 has been fired, WMATA officials announced today. Metro declined to name the operator, but identified her as a woman who has been an employee with the transit agency since 1976, and a rail operator since April 1999. Train Derails at Farragut North

No injuries have been reported thus far, but there’s a large emergency response outside the station, in the vicinity of 17th and K.
