Small towns and cities — like Greenbelt, Maryland — are starting to see direct federal aid from the last COVID stimulus bill, and in some places it’s equal to half their annual budgets.

D.C. is getting more than $2.5 billion in federal aid, which Mayor Muriel Bowser says she plans to spend over the next three years.

D.C. would get direct state and local aid, as well as $755 million it was shortchanged when Congress approved the CARES Act last year.
