It looks like Virginia Republicans are shying away from debating a proposed bill that would grant fetuses in the commonwealth the same rights as people.

A pregnant woman’s fetus has died after the mother was stabbed and seriously injured in a home invasion early Thursday morning in the Washington Highlands neighborhood, police said.

A Virginia Senate committee voted down a provision yesterday that would have forbidden any abortions after 20 weeks, the point at which pro-life organization say that fetuses can feel pain.
