Overheard in D.C.: Everything Revolves Around Me

It’s starting to be winter, finally, after a long Indian summer of warm days and little rainfall. But lately it’s been chillier and drizzlier and crummier outside. Most people prefer the sun; they don’t have to wear big jackets or get soggy, and D.C. cold always seems to bite. That doesn’t bother some folks. But they’re probably looking at you because you’re wearing Uggs. Quote of the Week At the Foggy Bottom Metro station: Girl…

Metro Brightens Foggy Bottom

Metro stations have always been dimly lit, adding to the general cathedral-like atmosphere upon which the transit system has built much of its reputation. But that may soon change. As part of a pilot program, Metro recently installed new lighting on the underside of the mezzanine level in the Foggy Bottom Metro station, flooding part of the platform with a bright white light. I noticed this last week as I arrived in the morning, and…

Well, they seem to have listened. As we walked to the Foggy Bottom Metro station yesterday afternoon, we quickly took a glimpse at the potholes, expecting them to have remained there, untouched….

Note to District: Fix These Potholes

We’ve complained about potholes before. And though there are plenty of them around the city, it has been a particular set of potholes that have tested our patience day in and day out over the last two years. Anyone who walks from the Foggy Bottom Metro station to Georgetown knows of them. There they are, a row of potholes along the southern edge of Pennsylvania Avenue, just beyond 24th Street. They start as mere dips…

LaRouche’s Parking Problem

This wouldn’t otherwise be news, but we’ve always been somewhat irked by Lyndon LaRouche and his followers. Even worse is the fact that they’ve spent the better part of the week camped out by the Foggy Bottom Metro station during the afternoon rush, doing what, well, whatever it is they do. Today they added to their act six or seven minivans and cars, all parked illegally in front of the George Washington University Hospital….
