Fire Producing Heavy Smoke at 1401 I Street NW Updated

UPDATE: According to D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire, which broke out around 10:30 a.m., was centralized in a cooling tower on the roof of the Franklin Tower. A bulk of the fire has now been knocked down. No injuries have been reported, but the building was evacuated. Firefighters are still investigating the scene, so you’ll still want to avoid the area.
