D.C. officials say the new bridge will be one of the city’s most iconic, though work on an interchange with I-295 and a pair of traffic ovals will continue into next year.
The bridge is one lane wider than the span it replaces, and includes wider bike lanes and pedestrian crosses.

Not all drivers are thrilled about traffic ovals, but the bridge could be great for cyclists and pedestrians.

UPDATE: DDOT has also postponed the previously scheduled closures of the inbound lanes on the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge this weekend to accommodate the marathon.
