Civil Rights Protesters Recount The Little-Told Story Of The Fight To Desegregate Glen Echo
On June 30, 1960, five black college students were arrested while riding the carousel at Glen Echo Park. Here’s the story through the eyes of those who were there.
For years, a rusting green trolley stood outside the entrance to the famous Glen Echo Amusement Park along MacArthur Boulevard in Montgomery County. As of this week, though, it disappeared.

Photo of the Day: August 22, 2007
IntangibleArts uploaded this photo from a day spent at Maryland’s Glen Echo Park. I could talk about the nice detail on the water droplets or the sense of longing captured in the eyes, but really, I just chose this because of the adorable puppy tongue reaching out to capture some cool drink. This photo reminds me to step up our cute furry animal coverage on DCist. EXIF….

Photo of the Day: May 30, 2007
This is one of those photos that pops up on the DCist photostream and screams, “Pick me! A Tactical Retreat From Bethesda?
It’s military base closure and realignment time! Can’t you feel the tension? A day after Northern Virginia went on alert that as many as 50,000 Defense Department workers could be leaving the area because their buildings do not meet federally mandated terrorist safeguards, a quiet corner of Bethesda might be the next area to see a Pentagon retreat. The Post reports that the Defense Department is considering consolidating agencies like the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency on…

Abandoned House Creates Stir in the Palisades
The Palisades is a quiet, sleepy District neighborhood, tucked away on a high bluff above the Potomac a few miles upriver from Georgetown. Little, if anything, newsworthy comes from the neighborhood. (Unless of course you count a busload of protesters from Chicago’s South Side showing up on Karl Rove’s front lawn on Weaver Terrace earlier this year.) But the neighborhood is in the news. According to Sunday’s Post, an abandoned house at 5136 Sherier Place…
