Servathon 2011: Team DCist Browne Bombers
Team DCist is feeling mighty fine about the awesome artwork we left on the walls at Browne Education Campus as part of Saturday’s Servathon.
Today is your final chance to register for Servathon 2011, the annual region-wide service day commencing that will take place this Saturday morning. Team DCist will join other groups in giving the Browne Education Campus — a Pre-K through 8th grade school in Carver/Langston — an upgraded look, painting the walls and otherwise beautifying the school.

Paint the Town with DCist at Servathon
With another successful Exposed opening in the books, DCist can now turn our focus to one of our favorite parts of spring. Join Team DCist on Saturday, April 16, as we volunteer during Greater DC Cares’ Servathon 2011! We’ll be sprucing up the Browne Education Campus in the Carver/Langston neighborhood, just east of Trinidad and the Atlas District, painting the school in vibrant colors to give “a comprehensive new look to instill pride in its students and to make students, staff and visitors to feel welcome and energized as soon as they walk through the school doors.”

Join Team DCist for Servathon 2008
Even with Mayor Fenty’s re-organization plan of D.C. public schools, we all know they’re still struggling, and not just academically. That’s why DCist is organizing another team this year to participate in the annual Servathon, organized by Greater DC Cares and their sponsor Fannie Mae, which is focusing only on fixing up school facilities this year. The date to roll up your sleeves is May 3. Last year, 27 DCist staff members and readers turned…

How Will You Commemorate Sept. 11?
Just as a new videotape from Osama bin Laden was released over the weekend, tomorrow marks the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and the Pentagon, and as in year’s past, there will be events, speeches and vigils across the country to remember the dead. But with more time now between us and that tragic day, it does seem as though the way we want to honor the anniversary…

Go Home Already: Better Luck Next Time
>> “A federal appeals court ruled today that I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, Vice President Cheney’s former chief of staff, must report to prison shortly to begin serving his 30-month sentence for lying to federal investigators about his role in leaking a CIA officer’s identity.” [WaPo] UPDATE: Man, we honestly thought that first comment was a joke for a minute! Bush has commuted Libby’s prison sentence. >> Please Add L2 to NextBus, K? Thx [The…

Servathon 2007 Recap
While outdoor Eastern Market vendors set up outside – on the first Saturday since the dreadful inferno – DCist writers and friends were just across the way, pretty-ing up Hine Junior High. After a whole month of reminding and re-reminding you, Servathon 2007 finally came! Not only did we paint the gym a brand-spanking-new shade of off-white, but we owned the fundraising. Since our original $2,000 goal proved easy as pie, we dared readers…
