The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the D.C. metro area, effective until 9 p.m. tonight. Along with rain and lightning, looks like there’s a 40 percent chance of winds gusts up to 80 mph and hail of up to 2.5 inches in diameter (!!). Do be careful on your way home tonight….

These thunderstorms the last couple of days have been pretty impressive, if not a little bit freaky. How can we have hail when it’s 50 degrees out?…
Check out these photos taken at 5:30 p.m. at the East Falls Church Metro station, where downed power lines have shut down Orange line travel in both directions. Metro has finally issued a full press release on what’s happening down there. Based on these images, if you’re heading out on the Orange line, our best advice would be to stay in the city tonight until much, much later, if not crash on a friend’s couch….
