D.C. Police Chief: Heller Decision ‘Didn’t Really Have An Impact On Gun Violence In Our City’
Tuesday marks the 10-year anniversary of the Supreme Court decision that enshrined an individual right to possess and carry firearms.
That means that residents no longer need a “good reason” to obtain a permit for carrying a concealed handgun.
For now, the AG’s office is telling MPD to enforce the “good reason” law, but it will be blocked starting approximately next Thursday.
“Due to the importance of this question, which affects the safety of every person who lives in, works in, or visits the District.”
The law requires that residents show “good reason to fear injury to his or her person or property” to receive a handgun license.
