If the District ever had any southern charm, it’s apparently long gone. According to a nationwide study of happiness, the District ranks towards the bottom of the list, coming in at 37th. Locally, our neighbor to the north is even more unhappy than we are (Maryland, 40th) while our southern friends seem a good deal cheerier (Virginia, 28th).
