Mamatoto Village is tackling a major problem in D.C.: bad outcomes for Black pregnant people, and the structural racism that causes them.

Laws to reform police, improve workplace conditions, and establish implicit bias training for health professionals are coming to Maryland.

“We hear so much bad news. This is good news,” says one local epidemiologist.

WEFITDC hosts a pop-up style workout session each week, which also features health and wellness booths that spotlight local, minority-owned businesses. 

The cancer mortality rate is down more than 10 percent from 2004, but the nation’s capital also tops the list of new HIV diagnoses among the 23 cities surveyed. And in just about all categories, black Washingtonians fared far worse health-wise than the white population.
